A couple of weeks ago we returned from our family holiday in Bavaria, Germany, which I have dearly missed ever since. Because it was 10 years since our last holiday abroad, we decided it was appropriate to splash out rather a lot on this one. So we rented an idyllic traditional Bavarian farmhouse for nearly two wonderful weeks immersed in German history and culture:
‘We’ comprised me, Dave, and our two youngest sons (alas, our eldest had a summer job in York), and my twin-sister, her husband, and my niece and nephew.
Mostly we visited King Ludwig’s amazing fairy-tale castles – Chiemsee, Linderhof, Hohenschwangau, and Neuschwanstein. They are all lavishly and beautifully decorated in dide, and I was inspired by every one of them, wanting to create detailed beauty in my own home.
