Just over a week ago I was on a camping holiday in Norfolk with extended family. The highlight of the holiday was a visit to Castle Acre Priory, a ruined monastery, which like most of Britain’s abbeys and priories, has been dis-used since the Henry Vlll’s dissolution of the monasteries in 1537.
Castle Acre Priory is the best preserved of those I have visited. The West End in particular features sumptuous stone carving, and the prior’s lodging also retains much decoration.
