Last week I designed and knitted this beret in my Yorkshire Warmth 4ply/fingering yarn, using the Thrang and Nowt shades. The main pattern is generally known as Midge and Fly. This is the version used by Mary Allen in most of the gloves she knitted in Dentdale during the Victorian and Edwardian periods. The ribs feature a little motif I call ‘dot flowers’. Mary Allen used this to separate initials and names in the wristband of the gloves she knitted.
Usually in a beret I use symmetrical decreases in the crown, whereas for this one I have deliberately used a decrease system that makes the ribs swirl to the centre. I love it!

Beautiful in the colors and the easy on eyes repetition in the pattern.
It’s just beautiful, and the swirl at the top is the best!
