I’ve been making masks for my family in an effort to increase our protective measures as Covid-19 spreads through the UK. Though our government says these are unnecessary for the general population, it is evident to me that countries where mask-wearing has become part of kindness culture have been more successful at curbing this dangerous infection. So I’ve searched for information about mask-wearing, suitable materials for them, and patterns that folk are using to make them. I particularly like the mask design from Craft Passion, which includes options for adding a nosewire and a filter pocket, both of which were features I wanted to include in my masks. The video tutorial gives very clear instructions, and the info with the video includes links to where the printable pattern templates can be downloaded.
I have some tomato-themed fabric that I used to make my hubby’s masks. He is a keen vegetable grower, so this seemed particularly appropriate.

Having seen Dave’s mask my 3 boys and my sister’s family (Marie, her hubby, also called Dave, and my teenage nephew and niece) have all chosen fabrics for me to use to make their masks, so I’ll be doing a lot of sewing over the next few days. I enjoy making the masks, not least because it feels to be a particularly proactive thing to do for fighting against the coronavirus pandemic.
