Circular Yoke Sweater Design

Now I have a new yarn (Yorkshire Warmth is in the process of being listed for sale via this site), I need a collection of garments and accessories designed to be knitted with this yarn. So I’ve begun working on a few ideas from my dream design list, beginning with a stranded yoke sweater design I’ve been percolating in my head for a number of years. The stranded pattern is inspired by a tessellating pattern that I keep finding in Georgian contexts, including designs by Chippendale.

I cast on a week or so ago, and have now finished the yoke. So here’s a sneak peek:

I’m undecided about the rib at the neck, and may yet replace it with some applied icord. What do you think?

An applied icord would give the neckline a more relaxed finish and be preferable to the rib I think.

  • The yoke design looks great, I think an i-cord edge might be preferable to the rib? It looks a bit unsophisticated next to the two-colour design.

What a beautiful design. I look forward to seeing how it progresses. I think an applied Icord edging would make this pattern both contemporary and elegant. However, I am biased in that I am not a fan of ribbed collars although I do prefer your k2 p2 to k1p1. Maybe work the pattern for both options 😉

you have straight lines then diamonds. How about keep rib neck in blue, but start yoke in blue with 1-2 rows then mini blue triangles which feed into the green diamonds with blue flowers? It would keep the eye following the tessellating yoke pattern.

    Hello Ann,
As long as the rib is at the front lower than the back, it will be fine to wear.
But an I-cord edging would be more elegant.
