Since Yarndale started back in 2013 it has become the highlight of the year in my business as the only UK show at which I take a stall. My sister directs me each year as I prepare for it, and then is my invaluable assistant at the show itself. I couldn’t do it without her!
Alas, we forgot to take pictures, so I can’t show you all the improvements we made to the stall this year, but I can tell you a little about them. One was that I dispensed with the plastic hat displays I’ve used in previous years, replacing them with three beautiful turned oak hat stands that I commissioned from a wood turner back in July. I love them! Here’s a photo of one of them displaying ‘Shornies’ from Tup Knits:
This year was the first year that we took a clothes rail to hang some jumpers and shawls on. It worked really well, despite our initial concerns when we couldn’t put it together. My poor Dave drove for nearly an hour to the show on Saturday morning to help fix it, which he managed within a couple of minutes. It turned out we had been using a screwdriver for some of the screws that actually needed an allen key! Oops…
The other key improvement in the stall was the use of two mannequins at the front of the stall to display Gledholt and Tups. They are beautiful mannequins, with patterned pabric and decorative edgings:
Thank you to everyone who came to see us. We had a wonderful show, including that it was our most successful one to date! Thankfully I had an inkling beforehand that Tup Knits would be popular, so had twice as many printed than I had originally intended. Despite that I only have a few left, and most of those (all?) will be going to contributors and reviewers. Don’t worry though, we’re nearly ready to list it here for print-on-demand orders. Hopefully I’ll have more to tell you about that next week.
We were too busy with customers to do much shopping at the show ourselves. However, I managed to run across to Vikki’s stall (Eden Cottage Yarns) to get some Harewood 4ply to make myself a pair of the Droving socks from Tup Knits. My pair will be in the Plum and Driftwood shades.
In other news, the carpet was fitted in my newly renovated studio on Friday, so I intend to do a Periscope broadcast from there tomorrow. Do join me! :o)
