April Love!

A few years ago I started experimenting with using lots of short rows to deeply scoop the front neck in circular yoke sweaters. One of the first designs to come out of this experiementation was the April sweater, and it remains one of my favourites. It has a particularly light elegance, soft on the eyes, and I’m especially proud of how neat the short rows are. The point where the short rows occur (below the colourwork) is discernible because the stitch columns change direction a little, but they do so without any unevenness in the stitches.

The incredibly satisfying neatness of the shorts rows is created by the use of the Japanese technique, which I learned in a class taught by my friend Carol Feller. She now has a free short rows class on Craftsy that I highly recommend, and she also recently published a book about short rows.

The digital pattern for April is on sale (15% discount) for the whole of this month. It’s an ideal sweater for spring, and with short sleeves and lots of plain stocking stitch is a relatively easy knit after the colourwork is over. Head over to the April pattern page to find more details about the pattern and/or to buy it.

Here’s a pic to show the neatness of the short rows:
