Accountability Rocks!

I’m beginning 2016 in keeping with my well-established character as Mrs Do-It-Later, as I had intended to write this blog post before the end of 2015. As I’m late, I could of course decide not to write it at all, as has been my habit for many years, but now I have the incredible support of Mr Charles Standing, and if I haven’t posted a blog post before 10am, I get to squirm when I speak to him at that time instead of joyfully celebrating another fully completed to-do list.

This daily support call with Mr Standing, in which we swap our to-do lists and report on how we did the previous day, has been the most outstanding feature of 2015 for me. Charlie is the ideal accountability partner for me, pushing me to be ambitious, identify the things I need support with, and to make it important to do them. He does this with kindness, warmth and humour, and the perfect amount of steel!

So 2015 was a year of getting things done in a much more timely manner than I ever have. In my core work, the bread and butter of life as a designer, Charlie’s support helped me me to publish 23 designs, including two books; Lace Knits and Merry Little Knits. Thanks to Charlie’s support I also have my accounts for the current tax year up to date, having completed bookkeeping for the previous month every single month. Thanks to Charlie my studio has been much tidier and more organised than it was previously. These are enormous changes for me!

In 2016 Charlie is going to support me with growing my business, so that it becomes much more financially rewarding than it has been. I will be spending the next week or so making specific plans, am even intending to buy a year-planner! I’m starting the year with much more excitement and confidence than is usual for me.

Thank you Charlie!

Dearest Ann, it has been wonderful to laugh with you every morning throughout 2015, and at the same time to get your similarly firm and constructive support in facing and vanquishing my work challenges. You provide the single most important contribution in my work life, and you do it in such a way that I look forward to every single phone call (even if I’ve slipped the day before). Thank you for everything, and I look forward to our collaborating in this way for a long time to come – if you’ll have me! My love to you, and huge great big hugs for 2016. Charlie x x

Wow! We all need an accountability partner! Sounds like a wonderful idea, and I can absolutely see how it would work well.
