An Ode To Foliage

As autumn is now beautifully doing its thing, with the trees around my home giving me daily bursts of joy, I thought I’d post about some of the many items I have designed that feature leaves.

It’s no surprise that I’ve designed many things featuring leaves, because leaves are the easiest thing to translate into lace knitting. There are many well-known lace leaf stitch patterns. They are also relatively easy to represent in stranded colourwork, though less abundant here than in lace. Therefore I have designed very few stranded colourwork items featuring leaves.

The roses on the Fleur Tote have leaves

I have one lace design that is named after a fictional tree that bears golden leaves, the Mallorn in Tolkien’s fiction.

The Sylvana hat is basically a crown of leaves!

I have designed many lace shawls and wraps that feature leaves:

Lady of the Wood
Edgerton
Linthwaite

And some sweaters and cardigans:

Ainley
Reinwood
