When I posted on Facebook about the antique sewing machine that I recently acquired, an old friend asked if I was going to do embroidery with it. This seemed such an impossibility that I assumed she was joking. But no, she was deadly serious. A quick search in YouTube proved to me that doing embroidery on straight stitch treadle sewing machines is indeed something that people do. I was particularly impressed (incredulous in fact!) by the lady who makes lace with her antique treadle machine.
Of course I am way too sensible to want to do something just because it looks incredibly skilled, and because the examples I’ve seen are both beautiful and impressive. I already have crafting hobbies at which I am proficient. Surely only a foolish person would add another that involves lots of time and patience to master?
I am, of course, rubbish at it. Will I actually master it with lots of practice and patience?
I reckon it took me about 10 hours of struggle and error and broken threads and skipped stitches and tension issues and about 20 broken needles and 2 yards of spare cotton fabric to get this far.

I am of co
