I’m still slowly making masks for my family and close friends to wear when we need to leave home for exercise or to do shopping. Having finally made some for myself, this weekend was the first time I left home since mid-March, except for a very safe visit to my sister’s house to deliver her birthday presents (I remained outside talking to her through her study window), and a couple of trips to a postbox.
With Dave and the boys I went for a walk along the Calder and Hebble Navigation canal. This runs just a few hundred yards from our house, and is popular with walkers and cyclists. Though it was quieter than usual, I was glad we had our masks as it proved impossible to maintain a 2 metre distance between ourselves and the cyclists and dog walkers who were likewise exercising there. The experience underlined for me how foolish it is that our authorities are not making it compulsory to wear masks when in public spaces. We were the only ones doing so on our walk. It was a beautiful walk though, and I felt blessed by it.
