Springwood Lace

This weekend I finished the lace edging on the bottom of the body of the Springwood jumper that I am making for myself in Knitpicks Lindy Chain yarn:

Alas, it’s a tiny bit looser than it should be, so I may yet reknit it using a smaller needle than I used for the main body. I was aware that this might be necessary as lace is typically looser than stocking stitch knitted on the same needle size. However, the sample knitter who made the Springwood we used for the photos in the book worked the lace on that with the same needle as she used for the main body, so I wasn’t certain it would be necessary. Of course, I should have swatched the lace as well as the stocking stitch before starting. When will I learn?

While this lace was still on the needles I used it to do a little lesson on Periscope about how to read lace knitting. This is an extremely useful skill that will save you from lots of mistakes, and make lace knitting a much more pleasureable activity! You can find the broadcast here. Periscope now saves broadcasts permanently, so you’ll be able to revisit this one whenever you need.
