As spring goes on summer is beginning to play peekaboo, ie we’ve had a few warm days in Yorkshire! I’m thinking of making myself a Springwood to wear on these warmer spring days. It’s a light fingering weight top with three-quarter sleeves and some simple leaf lace decoration at the cuffs and hip.
Though it works really well in the green Rowan Finest ‘Leaf’ colour featured in the sample, I’m thinking of making mine with Rowan Pure Wool 4ply in the ‘Eau de Nil’ colour, a lovely blue green:
It should be possible to substitute any standard fingering/4ply yarn for the Rowan Finest used in the sample, so I’m also considering using a linen 4ply to make a Springwood that is wearable on the hottest summer days. Rowan has ‘Panama’, a linen and cotton mix which should be suitable. I also like the look of Shibui Knits ‘Linen’ which is 100% linen. Both ‘Fjord’ and ‘Lime’ are singing to me! KnitPicks Lindy Chain is very similar, though it has a significant amount of cotton (30%) with the linen. It is very low in price, so if I go for this one I could justify extending my plans to two summer Summer Springwoods, one in Harbor, and one in Mist!
Springwood is part of my Lace Knits collection, currently available in print from Rowan stockists. And from me! It contains a lot of projects that are suitable for summer, so I’ll be posting about other knits in the collection in the weeks ahead.
