Over the top!

Please note – the pattern PDFs have now been deleted and the full pattern will soon be released for sale.

That’s where we’re heading (sic!) this week. :0)

The hood peak is formed from short row shaping in order to mould the hood around the back of the head. The particular method of short row shaping instructed is one that I developed especially for this hood because none of the conventional methods I tried gave a satisfactory result in the reverse stocking stitch. This method, while not entirely invisible, does blend well with the background. As with other parts of the scarf, a little ‘tidying up’ at the edges of the shaping after finishing this section is well worth the effort for the difference it makes.

The knot on the back of the hood is also my own creation, designed especially for this project. I wanted a knot that would cohere well with the other cables in the scarf and at the same time form a focal point for the main area of the hood with great ‘wow’ factor. I hope you agree that this knot achieves that!

Quick newsflash: my youngest son (just 7) learned to knit last night and proudly took his knitting to school with him today, as did his older brother (9) who is working on yet another garter stitch scarf. Like his mother, Tom suffers from severe episodes of startitis. ;0)

So, I suppose you’d like a link to Pattern Part 4? (That was it folks!)

I discovered this yesterday and started it this morning. Mostly through part 1, although I doubt I can catch up to the knitalong. But it’s such a nice pattern!

I just wanted to tell you that this hooded scarf is just beautiful. Actually, I might call it stunning. I’ve just cast on my first honest-to-goodness, worked in the round, adult-sized top (with sleeves), and I can’t bring myself to start another project right now. My daughters think it’s highly unfair for me to make a second pair of socks for myself before knitting a pair for each of them, so I have no lack of projects at the moment. There’s a little tug on my heart for your Lanthir Lamath, all the same. I started knitting last June and enjoy cables so far. I think I’ll just have to put this pattern in my queue for next fall!
