Cair Paravel

These slippers are photographed by me on my own two little feet. This was rather an acrobatic achievement, and I’m amazed I managed to get such a good result. Yes, I was holding the camera in my hands to take it. Amazing eh?

The setting is our back yard which was landscaped a few years ago by a good friend of the family. The stones, traditional stone paving ‘setts’, were reclaimed from the grounds of a textile mill in Clitheroe and have been laid in the traditional manner with pitch to set them in. Incredibly some of the stones are as much as a foot deep.

I’ve worked up a men’s version of this design with a larger celtic knot motif. I’ll post pictures as soon as the second of that pair is knitted and I’ve managed to persuade son number one (17 years old with suitably hairy feet and legs!) to stay put long enough for me to take them.

It occured to me as I designed these that being a relatively quick yet attractive knit the slippers would make ideal gifts. It seems I was right as having posted this picture in Ravelry yesterday I have already received several enquiries about the availability of the pattern from folk who are planning their Christmas and Channukah gifting. I wish I was always so ahead of the game with my own gift lists!

I’m currently writing up the pattern with the intention to have it tested over the next couple of weeks, so anticipate publishing this pattern at the end of the month.

I am one who can’t wait to make a few Christmas gifts with these! So pretty. You probably have lots of testers, but I’d happily volunteer my knitting. 🙂

Pretty! I wouldn’t mind a pair for myself. Love the cabling on the top. Another beautiful design.

These are definitely on the list for my Chanukah knitting projects! But far from being ahead of the game, now that I know what the plan is I’ll wait until November 1st-ish and then madly knit 20 pairs at the last minute, lol

Anne, new to you – found you in Stirling!

I do like these – and the name takes me back to happy reading after lights out, and made me smile. Thanks.

What is more, I already have the Durmstrang pattern which I was smitten with a year or two ago (though yet to make them) and totally didn’t realise that was your pattern! Cool…

I leave it much later than that… ;0)

Yay – hello Emily! I too loved the Narnia books as a child (still do). :0)
