With several colour changes, this is a great project for learning fair isle technique. The pattern contains clearly illustrated tutorials for two-handed fair isle technique and for spit-splicing in colourwork. This is an excellent time-saving, non-bulky technique for joining in new colours at exactly the right place without leaving any yarn ends.
Enid is sized to fit 53½–58½cm/21–23″ head circumferences. After finishing it measures 50½cm/20″ around and is 11cm/4½” deep.
The pictured sample was made with Rowan Felted Tweed in the Rage, Clay, Mineral and Watery shades. Please note that Rowan Felted Tweed is akin to a US sportweight yarn. Tension/gauge is 29 stitches and 31 rounds per 10cm/4″ in stranded colourwork after blocking. Suggested needle size is 3.25mm/US 3.
Marie –
I started knitting this in a class that Ann led for our local knitting and crochet guild. It is a great stater piece for anyone wanting to have a go at colourwork – the tutorials in the pattern are very clear and useful.
