This elegant cowl uses a stitch pattern adapted from the Sylvia cardigan, based on Chippendale trellis with Norwegian style motifs. The use of travelling colourwork as a design feature independent of shaping needs was inspired by the wonderful work of fellow designer, Kieran Foley.

The pattern includes illustrated tutorials for two-handed stranded colourwork, for trapping floats (aka weaving in), and for the increases used in this pattern.

You wlll need two colours of a light aran/worsted weight yarn with approxmately 140 metres/153 yards per 50g. The pictured samples were made with Rowan ‘Kid Classic’ in Tattoo #856 and Drought #876. One 50g ball/skein of each colour is sufficient to make the cowl. However, to check tension/gauge you will need a small quantity of extra yarn for the main colour.

Tension/gauge is 23 stitches and 27 rounds per 10cm/4″ in stranded pattern after blocking. Suggested needle size is 4.5mm/US 7. Tension/gauge for the garter stitch borders is 23 stitches per 10cm/4″. Suggested needle size for the garter stitch is 3.5mm/US 4.

The finished cowl measures 25cm/10″ high and 29 cm/11½” wide, with a circumference of 58cm/23″.
