These quirky, colourful childrens' socks are a deceptively easy project as they are knitted entirely in simple stocking stitch. All the design details are applied Swiss darning style (duplicate stitch) after knitting. The text reads 'Never tickle a sleeping dragon', an English translation of 'Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus', the Hogwarts school motto. The socks are knitted in the round on 2.5mm/US1½ needles at a tension of 8 stitches to 2.5cm/1". No specification is made regarding what technique to use, so choose DPNs, two circular needles, or one long circular needle (for magic loop) according to your personal preference. The pattern provides sizing options for children aged 5-7, 8-10, and 11-14. Clear guidance is also given for knitting a custom-fit sock to a child's actual measurements. Full instructions are given for each element of the socks for both sizing options. A chart shows the colour banding, the text, and the crest. Required yardage of the nine colours used in the socks varies, but is less than 50g in any one of them. Specific yardages are given in the pattern for each size.
